Having your portraits taken isn't something that happens every day! There's a lot to think about before your session like what to wear or bring to the shoot and where you'd like your portraits taken. When preparing for the shoot, it's important that you remember a few tips to ensure your photos turn out perfect!

What should you wear?

- Keep it simple! Solids or basic patterns photograph best. Dark colors are often better than light colors too.

- You don't have to buy something new for your session. If you do, make sure it is something that really works for you. Don't wear something you don't really like just because it's new!

- If you are shooting an engagement session or family session, think about the colors of your outfit. This doesn't mean you need to match exactly! Wear something in the same color family that coordinates well.

- Bring multiple outfits. We usually have time for two or three outfits so don't bring your entire closet! One casual outfit and one dressy outfit is usually perfect. If you are going for one look, a nice pair of jeans and the perfect top is your best bet!

- Accessorize your outfit! Spice up your choice of clothing with jewelry, scarves, sun glasses, or anything that brings out your personality.

- If you bring heels or shoes that are difficult to walk in, make sure you have some flats or flip flops to wear as we are moving.

- Think about how you are going to change from one outfit to another. Consider that the location we are shooting at may not have a public restroom anywhere close!

A few more tips

- If it's windy on the day of your shoot, don't be afraid to put your hair up! If you can't decide, bring a hair tie or clip with you to the shoot.

- If the weather isn't cooperating on the day of your shoot, we'll reschedule. In the end, it's up to you to decide if the day works for you.

- Think about the session location when planning your outfit. If we are shooting downtown, plan something dressy and chic. If we are outdoors at a park or other rural location, think about something a bit more casual and fun! Make sure you can move around well in whatever you wear.

- Plan on letting loose during your session! Be ready to have fun and enjoy getting your photos taken. It's a good idea to bring something you enjoy with you to the shoot. A frisbee or football, a picnic, or even your dog!
